A Glimpse into the Waajin Fragment
And the Cromaava was coming for Waajin.
The wind struck him like a wall.
He fell hard into the sand and the breath was torn from his chest.
Hot grains and small stones slashed across his face and arms.
Waajin crawled blindly through the screaming wind until he reached the lee of a high dune.
There he pressed himself against the slope as the storm tore over the ridge above him.
Sand cut across his back and shoulders, carving burning lines into his skin.
The dune broke the worst of the damage.
Turquoise liquid filled the air around him.
Waajin tried to breathe.
But Cronux entered him instead.
The first vision came like lightning through his mind.
He stood beside the tribe.
The Crosuu placed a hand on his shoulder.
He heard laughter.
Children running between the tents.
A life that should have been.
Then it vanished.
Another came.
Another life.
Another world.
The Cromaava roared around him.
Sand tore across the dune and the turquoise storm swallowed the night.
And in the heart of it the boy opened his eyes.
Through the screaming sand there was almost nothing to see.
Only two golden eyes.
